Infinity pool hotels in the Riviera Maya
Rooftop and beachfront pools from Puerto Morelos to Akumal, and who can use each one
The Riviera Maya is Mexico's Caribbean coast from Puerto Morelos south to Tulum, and its infinity pools come in three settings: rooftops above Playa del Carmen, pools at the edge of the sand, and private pools in resorts built among mangroves and lagoons.
The view is mostly the same turquoise sea, so the real differences are access and rules. A rooftop pool can be open to every guest or kept for one suite level, the private infinity pools come with the top categories, and five of the 13 hotels are built for couples, while the rest also welcome children.
Most hotels on this page offer an all-inclusive rate, which changes how you compare prices. The coast is warm all year, and the dry season, from December to April, brings the most reliable pool days.
Compare the pool, the hotel highlights and the starting price, then jump to any hotel for photos and room details.

From: the lowest nightly rate seen for upcoming dates, for the cheapest room, which is not always the category with the infinity pool; taxes and fees included, except a local tourist tax collected at the hotel where one applies; your dates may differ. Rating: the guest review score on Booking.com, out of 10.
The order weighs the pool first, a shared signature infinity pool ahead of pools reserved for certain rooms, then its setting and view, and after that the hotel itself: brand, distinctions, guest score and price.

Impression Moxché by Secrets is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort of 198 suites in Corasol, a gated community of hotels and homes on the Playa del Carmen coast. Its rooftop infinity pool sits on the ninth floor, is open to all guests and looks out over the palms to the Caribbean Sea.
The same rooftop holds Cielo, a restaurant for lunch facing the ocean, and is a place to watch the sunset among palms and tropical plants. At ground level, a central pool is set in white sand and palms. Down on the sand, the beach club serves grilled dishes facing the sea. Every suite has a private balcony or terrace and butler service, with views that range from the tropical gardens to the ocean front.
Teodoro, one of three restaurants reserved for Impression guests, serves a seven-course tasting menu facing the ocean and received the AAA Five Diamond award for 2025. The resort itself received the same award each year from 2023 to 2025. Guests can also dine at the restaurants of Secrets Moxché, the sister resort next door.
Best for: couples and honeymooners looking for an all-inclusive stay built around fine dining.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya sits on the white sand of Akumal Beach, and its expansive infinity pool faces the Caribbean and is open to all guests. It is one of three main pools, next to a lively social pool and a calm relaxing pool, plus two outdoor hot tubs. The all-inclusive resort is adults-only, with no minimum age published.
Akumal means 'place of the turtle' in Mayan, and the beach is known for its calm water and its sea turtles. The resort offers private snorkeling tours with the turtles, and its sustainability work, certified Travelife Gold and Preferred by Nature, includes turtle protection in the nesting season. Some activities cost extra.
The 434 suites each have a balcony or terrace, many with ocean views. A private plunge pool comes with the Preferred Club Junior Suites with tropical, ocean or oceanfront views, the Romance Master Suites with ocean view or oceanfront, and the Presidential Suite. Swim-out suites open onto 11 smaller pools. Nine dining options need no reservations, and the spa has an outdoor hydrotherapy circuit.
With live music, theme nights and beach parties, the resort keeps a busy evening program. Best for: couples on a romantic beach holiday and snorkelers keen to see sea turtles.

Devossion by Live Aqua, the former Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen, faces the beach in the town center, steps from Fifth Avenue. It is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort. The main pools, open to all guests, are three terraced pools set between the hotel wings; the one beside the wooden beach deck is an infinity pool whose open edge looks over the wooden deck and the beach.
Rooms and suites look over the ocean, the gardens or the preserved mangroves. Premium Plunge Garden View rooms, The Elixir Suite and The Presidential Suite each add a private plunge pool on the terrace or balcony, and swim-up rooms open onto a semi-private pool. For laps, there is a 25 meter (82 foot) semi-Olympic pool.
Dinner at the restaurants needs no reservation, and Cenote Spa sets its treatment cabins among preserved mangrove. Evenings bring themed parties and toasts under the stars, and visitors who are not staying can buy a day pass that covers the facilities and restaurants. The setting is the busy town center rather than a secluded stretch of coast.
Best for: couples and groups of friends who want a social all-inclusive in the middle of town.

Royal Hideaway Playacar has six pools, and the one that looks out to the horizon is its infinity pool, open to all guests. It sits at ground level behind the beach, with its far edge opening toward the sand and the Caribbean Sea; the others include four relaxation pools. The resort is adults-only and all-inclusive, on Chac Halal Beach in Playacar.
The 201 rooms are spread across villas set among tropical gardens, with paths leading to the sea, and each villa has its own concierge. The Luxury Relax Pool rooms sit next to the relaxation pools, in a particularly peaceful part of the resort.
The restaurants cover Mexican, Italian, Thai and international cooking, and Ventanas and Palazzo ask for formal attire. The Chef's Table is a nine-course tasting menu with paired wines, at extra cost. Evening entertainment means shows at the Club Royal theater and live music at the Allegria Bar. The Retreat spa offers massages and couples treatments, and there is a certified dive center on site.
Best for: couples and honeymooners who want a quiet beach stay with meals included.

At Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen, the rooftop infinity pool is reserved for guests of the Preferred Club suites, who also get the bar and restaurant on the same rooftop. The resort is adults-only and all-inclusive, with 485 suites on a strip of white-sand beach on the Playa del Carmen coast, next to its sister resort, Impression Moxché.
Preferred Club suites add a private lounge and concierge service, and some open from the terrace straight into a pool. Guests in the other suites use the pools at ground level: a large lagoon pool designed as an inland beach with calm water, pools with swim-up bars and three man-made cenote pools set between stone walls.
Every suite has tropical or ocean views and a private balcony or terrace, and many add a soaking tub outside. The Stellar Presidential Penthouse has a private plunge pool on its terrace. The all-inclusive plan covers the restaurants without reservations and 24-hour room service, while a few dining experiences cost extra, and at night a hidden speakeasy dance club lets guests in with a password.
Best for: couples and honeymooners who book a Preferred Club suite for the rooftop pool.
The Fives Oceanfront Puerto Morelos is a boutique hotel on a white sand beach in the fishing village of Puerto Morelos. Its infinity pool by the beach faces the Caribbean Sea and is open to all guests; it is one of the hotel's two infinity pools. For a pool of your own, book the Two or Three Bedroom Presidential Penthouse Residence: each has a private rooftop terrace with an infinity pool and a whirlpool tub.
Every room is a residence-style suite, with up to three bedrooms, a living area, a fully equipped kitchen and a furnished balcony or terrace. Children are welcome, although the hotel is aimed mainly at adults, and pets are accepted. Guests choose between a European plan with breakfast and an all-inclusive plan that covers the restaurants, bars and snacks.
Kíin Rooftop serves sushi and a Mexican omakase menu with views of the Caribbean Sea and the mangroves, while RoMarley Beach House pairs Caribbean food with live reggae bands on the sand. The restaurants are open to the public, and day passes are available for visitors who want a day on the beach. The spa offers massages, hydrotherapy, sauna and steam at an extra charge.
Best for: couples or families who want a suite with a kitchen on the beach, and travelers bringing a pet.
9 room options
from $1110/night*
The first all-inclusive resort of the Park Hyatt brand, Park Hyatt Riviera Maya is not scheduled to welcome guests until 2027. It sits near Puerto Morelos on a 300 meter (980 foot) private beach, set between protected mangroves and the Caribbean Sea. Of its four pools, the main one is a beachfront infinity pool lined with private cabanas and open to all guests. Its water spills over the front edge to a lower level of the pool deck.
Several categories add a pool of your own. The 1 King Bed Ocean View with Private Pool rooms have one on a furnished terrace facing the ocean. The Ocean View suites with a plunge or private pool, up to the Penthouse Suite with Plunge Pool, have a plunge pool on the balcony or terrace. Each of the 148 rooms and suites opens onto a private balcony, and rooms start at 52 square meters (560 square feet).
The all-inclusive plan will cover seven restaurants and bars and access to the hydrotherapy facilities of Velara Spa. Evenings will bring live music, DJ sets and shows.
Best for: travelers who want a luxury all-inclusive stay on a private beach, ideally in a room or suite with its own pool.

The St. Regis Kanai is built on a natural mangrove reserve on the Caribbean shore, and its circular buildings appear to float above the mangrove canopy. The John Jacob Astor Suite comes with a private infinity pool: an infinity-edge plunge pool on a terrace with a whirlpool, a garden and a dining space, facing the mangroves and the sea beyond.
Other categories, such as the St. Regis Suite with Plunge Pool, have a private plunge pool on the terrace; for the infinity edge, the category to book is the John Jacob Astor Suite. The shared pools sit by the beach, with a family pool and pools reserved for adults to choose from.
The resort holds One MICHELIN Key and offers the brand's Butler Service. Its spa uses Mayan-inspired treatments with local plants and herbs, and Toro, led by chef Richard Sandoval, serves Mexican and Latin American dishes by the beach. Families have the Tortuga Children's Club.
Best for: couples who book the John Jacob Astor Suite for its private pool, and families who want a kids' club and a family pool by the beach.
Two suite categories at Fairmont Mayakoba come with a private infinity pool: the Beach Front Suite, where it sits on a terrace with ocean views, and the Camaleon Presidential 2 Bedroom Suite, which also looks out to the ocean. Guests in the other rooms share the resort's pools and its beach.
The resort stands inside Mayakoba, a private community of jungle, mangroves, lagoons and canals on the Caribbean shore. Its 401 rooms, casitas and suites are spread across this land, so the distance to the sand depends on the category: the Beach Area and Beach Front rooms are a few steps from the beach. The Beach Front Suite adds a living room, two bathrooms and butler service, and the Camaleon suite has two bedrooms with a living and dining area.
An all-inclusive package is optional and chosen at booking; golf at El Camaleón, the Greg Norman-designed championship course, is not part of it. Guided boat tours run through the mangrove canals of Mayakoba, home to more than 240 animal species, and a kids' club welcomes children aged 5 to 11.
Best for: families, and couples ready to book the Beach Front Suite for its private infinity pool.

Sensira Resort & Spa is a family all-inclusive resort on Petempich Bay in Puerto Morelos, facing the Caribbean Sea on the Riviera Maya coast. Its infinity pool, which the resort calls its activity pool, sits at ground level just behind the beach, with the seaward edge running into the sea horizon. It is open to all guests and is one of seven pools, which include a family pool and a splash park for young children.
The rooms look toward the Caribbean and have wood and marble details and a balcony or terrace. Family rooms give children their own space, with a three-level bunk bed and a TV. Separate clubs serve little ones, kids and teens, and the Adventure Aquapark adds water slides. The Inspiration Spa takes its design from works by Van Gogh, Picasso and Miró, and includes a hydrotherapy circuit.
Keep in mind that the infinity pool is the activity pool of a family resort, so the pool deck suits lively family days more than quiet ones. Best for: multigenerational families and parents traveling with children of different ages.

from $160/night*
On the roof of the Downtown House, Alessia Dayclub holds the block-long rooftop infinity pool of Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen, with a swim-up bar, daybeds and private cabanas. Access to the day club is not included with the stay and is paid separately, and the club is also open to visitors who are not staying at the hotel. The rooftop, which the hotel bills as the largest in town, looks over the roofs of the town to the Caribbean Sea and plays lounge and dance music.
The hotel, the former Thompson Playa del Carmen, reopened under the Hyatt Centric name in 2025 and has two buildings. Most of its 119 rooms and suites are in the Downtown House, with mid-century modern decor, Mexican touches and floor-to-ceiling windows. Across Quinta Avenida, the Beach House has 27 rooms and suites, direct beach access, its own beachfront pool and a casual restaurant by the sea. Two suites add a private hot tub: the Calle Corazon Suite on a balcony facing the sea and the center, and the Panoramic Ocean Front Suite on a terrace facing Cozumel Island. Dogs are welcome.
The trade-off is the setting: the Downtown House sits among the shops and nightlife of the center, next to the Coco Bongo nightclub, and the beach is across the avenue at the Beach House. Best for: couples and friends who want the town's nightlife on the doorstep and a beach base across the street.
7 room options
from $130/night*
The rooftop infinity pool of The Fives Downtown sits on Fives Rooftop, at the top of the building, and is open to all hotel guests. Its edge looks over the roofs of the town to the Caribbean Sea, and the deck has loungers, a bar and a restaurant. Bali beds on the deck are not included in the room rate.
The Fives Downtown Hotel & Residences is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton and holds a AAA Four Diamond rating. It stands in the center of Playa del Carmen, among the restaurants and nightlife around Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida). Rooms range from deluxe rooms to one- and two-bedroom residences with fully equipped kitchens and private terraces. The Two Bedroom Presidential Penthouse Residence adds a private plunge pool on its terrace, with a view of the sea.
The compromise is the position: this is a town hotel, not a beachfront resort, and the rooftop is shared with outside visitors, since Fives Rooftop is also open to the public. Stays are booked room only or with breakfast, and pets are welcome. El Tigre, a cantina that bills itself as the town's first, pours tequila and mezcal.
Best for: couples who prefer a lively town base to a beach resort, and longer stays in a residence with a kitchen.
One hotel on this page has no infinity-edge pool; it is listed for a pool whose rooftop, view or setting stands out.
12 room options
from $750/night*
Banyan Tree Mayakoba has 159 villas and suites inside Mayakoba, a gated resort community of protected mangroves and freshwater lagoons linked by canals, with direct access to the Caribbean coast. Every villa and suite has its own private pool, and what you see from it depends on the category you book.
The beachfront suites open onto the sand, with a plunge pool on the terrace, while the upper-level oceanfront suites look over the Caribbean from a terrace or balcony. The lagoon villas set their pools among jungle and water, and the two- and three-bedroom family residences have theirs on a rooftop solarium facing the golf course. The private pools of the Serenity Pool Villa with Living Room, the Bliss Pool Villa and the Family Residences are heated.
Two beach clubs on the shore add shared pools. Sur is reserved for adults, and the kids' club at Sands takes children aged 5 to 12. Saffron, the signature restaurant, serves Thai cuisine, and the spa's Rainforest circuit mixes water and heat in a sequence inspired by Asian and European traditions. The resort holds two MICHELIN Keys and is not all-inclusive.
Best for: couples who want privacy around their own pool, and families who book a multi-bedroom residence.
Before you book
Five questions that decide which of the hotels above fits your trip.
Choose Playa del Carmen for restaurants and shops on foot, a resort enclave north of town if the resort is the trip, and Puerto Morelos or Akumal for a calm bay.
Playa del Carmen grew around Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, a pedestrian street that runs parallel to the sea for kilometers. Devossion by Live Aqua, Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen and The Fives Downtown are in the center, a few steps from it, with the crowds that come with it. On the north side of town, Secrets Moxché and its sister resort Impression Moxché sit side by side inside Corasol, a gated community of hotels and homes. Royal Hideaway is on the beach at Playacar, south of the center.
North of town, the coast turns into resort enclaves. Mayakoba is a private estate of mangrove forest, lagoons and canals, with four hotels linked by waterways. Two of them are on this page, Fairmont Mayakoba and Banyan Tree Mayakoba, and Banyan Tree holds two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection. The St. Regis Kanai, also north of Playa del Carmen, is built on a mangrove reserve by the sea.
Puerto Morelos, at the northern end of the Riviera Maya, is a village whose offshore reef is protected as a national park, and both The Fives Oceanfront and Sensira Resort & Spa sit on its beach. Park Hyatt Riviera Maya, on a private beach near the village, is scheduled to open in 2027. South of Playa del Carmen, Secrets Akumal faces Akumal Bay, known for calm, shallow water and sea turtles.
If you plan to eat out most nights, stay in Playa del Carmen. If you plan to spend your days at the pool and on the beach, the enclaves and the quieter bays are the better base.
The shared rooftop infinity pools are in Playa del Carmen, the beachfront infinity pools sit at ground level at the resorts on the sand, and the mangrove resorts put the water in your own suite or villa.
At Secrets Moxché, the rooftop infinity pool, with its bar and restaurant, is reserved for guests of the Preferred Club suites. Book that category if the rooftop is the reason for your stay. Next door, Impression Moxché has its rooftop infinity pool on the ninth floor, and in the center, the one at The Fives Downtown looks over the roofs of the town to the sea. At Hyatt Centric, also in the center, the block-long rooftop infinity pool belongs to Alessia Dayclub, and access is not included with the stay.
On the beach, Secrets Akumal and Royal Hideaway each have an infinity pool among several pools, with the Caribbean beyond the edge, and The Fives Oceanfront has two infinity pools. When it opens in 2027, Park Hyatt Riviera Maya will add a beachfront infinity pool lined with cabanas. At Sensira, the infinity pool is also the activity pool of a family resort, so the deck is lively rather than quiet. In the town center, Devossion has three terraced pools between the hotel wings, and the one beside the wooden beach deck has an infinity edge facing the beach. At Banyan Tree, every villa and suite has its own pool, set among jungle and lagoons, facing the beach or on a rooftop terrace.
Four hotels also welcome visitors who are not staying: The Fives Downtown opens its rooftop to the public, Hyatt Centric opens Alessia Dayclub to visitors, The Fives Oceanfront has day options on its beach, and Devossion sells a day pass.
Our pick for a rooftop pool is Impression Moxché, because every guest can use it; the compromise is the price, near the top of this page's range. For an infinity pool on the sand, we would choose Secrets Akumal, whose pool faces a calm bay with sea turtles.
Couples can choose among five adults-only resorts, and families among eight hotels that welcome children, one of them Park Hyatt, scheduled to open in 2027; several have kids' clubs, and two keep pools or a beach club for adults. The five adults-only hotels are Impression Moxché, Secrets Akumal, Royal Hideaway, Secrets Moxché and Devossion. None of the five publishes a minimum age, so ask the hotel before you book with a teenager.
They differ in pace. Secrets Akumal keeps a busy evening program of live music, theme nights and beach parties, and Devossion has a daily social program with themed parties. Royal Hideaway spreads its rooms across garden villas, and Impression Moxché, the more private sister of Secrets Moxché, lets its guests dine at the restaurants next door as well.
For families, Sensira is built around children, with separate clubs for little ones, kids and teens and an aquapark with water slides. The St. Regis Kanai has the Tortuga Children's Club, a family pool and pools reserved for adults. At Banyan Tree, the Sur beach club is for adults, while the kids' club at Sands takes children aged 5 to 12. Fairmont Mayakoba runs a kids' club for children aged 5 to 11 and sells family packages. The Fives Oceanfront welcomes children, although it is aimed mainly at adults.
Our pick for families is The St. Regis Kanai, where the kids' club and the family pool sit alongside pools reserved for adults, so parents and couples each have their own space. For a quiet couples' stay, we would choose Royal Hideaway, whose rooms are spread across garden villas, each with its own concierge.
A private pool is worth it if you want privacy or a particular view, but at most hotels here it means one of the top suites. The 'from' price on each card does not cover it. In 2026, those 'from' prices run from about 130 USD to more than 1,000 USD a night.
Banyan Tree has a private pool in every villa and suite. At most other hotels, private pools come only with selected rooms or suites, so check each card. Three hotels have private infinity pools: the Two and Three Bedroom Presidential Penthouse Residences at The Fives Oceanfront, on a private rooftop terrace, the John Jacob Astor Suite at The St. Regis Kanai, facing the mangroves, and the Beach Front Suite and Camaleon Presidential 2 Bedroom Suite at Fairmont Mayakoba, facing the ocean.
Seven hotels are all-inclusive (Impression Moxché, Secrets Akumal, Royal Hideaway, Secrets Moxché, Sensira, Devossion and Park Hyatt, which is scheduled to open in 2027), and The Fives Oceanfront and Fairmont Mayakoba sell an all-inclusive plan as an option. Banyan Tree, like most Mayakoba hotels, works on a room-rate basis, so meals are extra, and The Fives Downtown has no all-inclusive plan but offers rates with breakfast. Compare an all-inclusive rate with a room rate only after adding the cost of two or three meals a day.
For a private infinity pool, we would book the John Jacob Astor Suite at The St. Regis Kanai, the one category there with the infinity edge. If you would rather look at the ocean, the Beach Front Suite at Fairmont Mayakoba has its private infinity pool on a terrace with ocean views.
If a pool of your own matters more than the edge, Banyan Tree gives a private plunge pool to every villa and suite; the compromise is that meals are not included.
December to April, the dry season, is the best time for pool days. Summer and early fall bring more heat, a higher chance of seaweed on the beach and the risk of storms.
The coast is warm all year, with an average temperature of about 26 C (79 F). Daytime highs are around 28 C (82 F) in winter. In midsummer they climb to about 33 C (91 F), so shade by the pool matters more than heated water.
Sargassum, the brown seaweed that drifts onto Caribbean beaches, is most likely to arrive from April to August, the hottest months, which does not mean that every beach is covered. The federal SATsum sargassum map shows daily satellite levels and a forecast for the beaches of Quintana Roo. On a seaweed day the pool becomes the main place to swim, one more reason to choose a hotel for its pool.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, and most storms come between mid-August and mid-October.
Book between December and April for the steadiest weather. For a summer trip, check the sargassum map in the days before you travel and choose a hotel whose pool you would happily use all day.
